Search filters can help—and hide relevant records
Adjust location and date filters deliberately while keeping a record of what you checked.
AI-assistedFilters make a large directory easier to review. They also determine which records you do not see. A search that looks thorough within a narrow filter may still exclude a relevant report because of an uncertain date, a different location label, or missing information.
Start with reliable constraints
Use details that are reasonably established. If the last confirmed city is known but the event date is uncertain, avoid treating a narrow date window as a fact. Explain approximations in your notes.
Understand what each field represents. The report date, incident date, and photograph date are not interchangeable.
Change one setting at a time
If the initial results are unhelpful, broaden a relevant filter and note the change. This makes it easier to understand whether new candidates appeared because of the location, date, or another setting.
- Filters used and why.
- Date and time of the search.
- Records worth passing for review.
- Important limitations in the available data.
Do not overread an empty list
No results may mean no records satisfy the current settings. It does not prove that the person is absent from every database or that no other help is available.
On Wakif, browsing concerns the reports the service makes available in the current scope. Review any location or capability information the interface provides. Combine useful directory work with the appropriate official reporting process rather than treating a filtered list as an exhaustive search of the world.
